Young Writers Contest

How to Participate

Just do it! This contest is open to all Peterborough and area schools. Entering this contest is a personal choice and a great opportunity to discover your abilities as a writer. The judges comment on every entry and give you feedback on your writing. Read the stories of past winners in our ebook and be inspired.

1. Watch for the contest poster which will go up in the schools in February.

2. Acquire a copy of the contest rules from your teacher or go to this website and print a copy. Make careful note of the deadline date. Make sure all the rules are met especially the instructions regarding the title page, length, and genre.

3. Your story must be original and meet legal copyright standards.

4. Make sure you revise, edit, and proofread your story to make it the best it can be. Have someone whose judgement you trust read your story and comment. Read your story aloud (record and listen to it, if possible) and revise where necessary.

5. Submit 4 printed copies of your story to your teacher. It will be picked up by a member of the Contest Committee OR you may mail it to Young Writers at the Lakefield Literary Festival, Box 940, 44 Queen Street, Lakefield, ON, K0L 2H0 OR you may hand deliver your entry to HappenStance Books and Yarns, 44 Queen Street, Lakefield, Ontario.

6. Every eligible entrant receives a gift book written by one of the authors who is a guest at the current year's Festival.

So just do it. You could be a winner! You could be a runner-up! You could be published!
